What is Laser Engraving?

| WHAT IS LASER ENGRAVING AND HOW DOES IT WORK?

Laser engraving is a process whereby a laser beam acts as a chisel, incising marks by removing or “burning” the surface of the leather.

Using your images or designs, we can create personalised leather accessories with laser engraved images, drawings or text.

The final product is a dark brown/black colour, burnt about 1mm deep into the surface of the leather.

During the “burning” process, a type of soot is created from the laser, this can leave your leathers surface looking slightly dusty or dirty. Do not panic! With use, the soot created from the laser will drop off, leaving behind the clean and clear lines of your engraving design. A slightly damp cloth or a lick of leather conditioner lightly brushed over the engraving will also get this dusty soot off your leather bag or purse in no time.

| WHAT IMAGES AND DESIGNS ARE BEST FOR LASER ENGRAVING?

Since the process itself involves burning the leather, we recommend using designs that have clean lines with no shading.  Too much black or shading in your design will create a lot of burn, and in turn a lot of soot. We cannot engrave photographs at all. If you’re unsure of what works best, have a look at our Pinterest page that shows the type of imagery that would give the best result.

Font styles that are well spaced with large, easy to read letters are best. Although we would recommend steering clear of Bold fonts on larger designs.
